Otras iluminaciones

Professor Ana Luengo publishes a new book Otras iluminaciones: Narrativa, cultura y psicodélicos, co-edited with Professor Alberto Ribas-Casasayas (Santa Clara University) in Almenara Press. The volume is a collection of academic and essayistic writings that reflect on the much-discussed “psychedelic renaissance” from the perspective of Latin American and Iberian literary and cultural studies and examines recent artistic creations in Spanish that reflect or arise from the psychedelic experience. We begin with a critical reflection from the humanities on a phenomenon that has often been approached through pharmacology, as a technique for psychological or spiritual enhancement, or as a tool for productivity. These restrictive approaches, shaped by capitalist norms, overlook considerations such as potential environmental impacts, the appropriation of Indigenous knowledge, and other sociocultural and economic asymmetries, as well as the value of alternative ways of knowing or countercultural practices.
