Valerie McGuire holds a PhD in Italian Studies from New York University. Her research focuses on post-colonialism in Italian language, belonging, culture and history. She has published extensively the forgotten history of Italian empire in the Mediterranean, and is currently completing a book about Italian rule the Southeast Aegean or Dodecanese islands. She has held a Max Weber postdoctoral fellowship in History at the European University Institute in Florence, an Andrew Mellon award for research on the Mediterranean region from the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, and a Fulbright scholarship to Greece.
